Dean Hummell

Dean Hummell is a prominent public official and long-time resident of Big Rock, Illinois, currently serving as the Big Rock Township Supervisor following the April 2025 consolidated election. He was elected to a 4 year term.
His career in local governance and community development includes several key leadership roles: 
  • Village President (Former): He served as the Village President for Big Rock for 16 years, leading board meetings and overseeing critical infrastructure projects such as road rehabilitations and drainage improvements.
  • Park District Founder:  In 1994, Hummell and Brad Huggins facilitated the separate Big Rock from the Sugar Grove Park District, as local tax dollars were primarily funding Sugar Grove programs. This required securing signatures from over 80% of township landowners, a process that took nearly two years and was reportedly one of the largest disconnections by a park district in Illinois history. This for the creation of the Big Rock Park District. In 1996, he was one of the five founding commissioners of the Big Rock Park District, helping to establish the organization that now manages youth sports and local recreational facilities. He served on the board for 10 years in which time they built the park and the building at the park.
  • Community Advocate: He is actively involved in local events, such as the annual Big Rock car show, cooked at the Plowing Match for over 20 years, cooks for the Rodeo and has advocated for the maintenance of community traditions
