At this time, both cemeteries have lots available, and the purchase of any remaining gravesites is limited to township residents and immediate families of individuals currently interred there. The following Cemetery Rules and Regulations have been approved by the Board of Trustees for Big Rock Township, Kane County Illinois. These Rules and Regulations are applicable to all cemeteries owned and operated by the township. The Township Supervisor or designee is hereby authorized to enforce the Cemetery rules and regulations as approved.
The Cemetery is open daily from Dawn to Dusk. All funerals and burials in the cemetery shall be under the direction of the Township Supervisor.
There shall be no entry or presence in the cemetery by any unauthorized person when the cemetery is closed or outside of authorized times .
There shall be no headstones, ornaments, vases, plastic flowers, fences, benches, trellises, statues, signs or any other item placed, kept, installed, or maintained in a cemetery except those expressly allowed by the Cemetery Ordinance.
Annual and/or small perennial flowers may be placed on cemetery lots in a designated flower bed area only. Flower beds shall be placed on the inscription side of the headstone. Flower beds cannot extend more than 12 inches from the headstone and cannot be longer than the width of the headstone.
Cut flowers are permitted only in flush-mounted vases or other approved containers. No glass containers are allowed.
Potted plants shall be allowed from May 15 through September 15th only. If left after that date, they will be removed and discarded without notice.
Wreaths are only allowed from November 15 through March 15. Grave blankets are not allowed.
Owners or families must clean up all plants, decorations, and remove grave blankets, wreaths and weathered decorations by April l and by October l of each year. All trash, waste, and other items for disposal must be removed by the person creating the waste or deposited into approved waste receptacles. All waste receptacles must be covered after use.
FLAGS
Flags will be allowed to be placed in the Cemetery on the graves of veterans.
The following items are prohibited on all cemetery lots, burial spaces and gravesites:
No monument, marker, planting, trellis, personal items, um, flowers or foliage (whether real or artificial), structure, flag (except for lawful veterans flags), or other items may be placed, installed or left in any Township Cemetery in violation of these Rules and Regulations without the prior approval of the Township Supervisor or designee.
Non approved items may be removed at any time and disposed of without any prior notice to, permission from, or liability or obligation to the person or persons who left, installed, maintained or kept such item in the Cemetery. The Township Board and their assignees are not liable for any items left on Cemetery property, lots or graves.
There shall be no digging, grading or mounding unless expressly authorized by the Township.
There shall be no disinterment or grave openings unless approved by the Township or other authorized agencies.
No children under twelve (12) years of age shall be allowed in any Township cemetery unless accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
No person may disturb the quiet of the cemetery by noise or improper conduct of any kind. Persons in the cemetery are expected and required to conduct themselves in a courteous and respectful manner at all times. Profane or boisterous language will not be allowed and loiterers will not be tolerated in the Cemetery.
No person shall disturb the peace or unreasonable annoy, harass or disturb any other person who is lawfully present on the grounds of any Township cemetery.
There shall be no music, playing of any radio, or the use of any amplification device or similar item, except pursuant to a military ceremony or funeral, unless approved by the Township. No person shall engage in any fight, quarrel or disturbance. There shall be no unlawful interference with or disruption of a lawful funeral or funeral procession.
No recreational activities are allowed in the Cemetery, including but not limited to ball playing, hockey, fishing, rollerblading or skating, golfing or other related activities.
The following are specifically prohibited at all times on the cemetery property:
Metal detectors; Fires, candles or open flames except as part of a recognized and Township approved ceremony; Possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages; barbeques, picnicking, or other consumption of food; Scattering or dispersing of cremains or ashes of a deceased person or animal; Domestic animals or pets except for service dogs assisting handicapped persons. Firearms are prohibited except for military or veterans organizations for the purpose of firing over the grave at the burial of a member, veteran, or as part of a recognized and Township approved ceremony
No vehicles shall be permitted to drive on lawns or cemetery plots in a cemetery. The speed limit within all Township Cemeteries shall be 5 miles per hour (mph). Snowmobiles, fourwheelers, go-carts or similar vehicles are not allowed in the cemetery.
There shall be no solicitation of services or goods or any signs or placards advertising any goods or services located within the cemetery.
No person shall destroy, deface, apply graffiti to or otherwise injure or damage any monument, sign, tree, plant or other lawful item located within a Township cemetery .
There shall be no littering, dumping, vandalizing or tipping over of any lawful garbage container or receptacle.
The abuse of monuments, markers, graves or Cemetery appurtenances whether intentional or otherwise, and the unauthorized removal of flowers, ums or any of the Cemetery equipment will be considered vandalism and/or destruction of property and will be reported to police and prosecuted.
All persons entering the cemetery will be held fully responsible for any damage done to the Cemetery properties. All persons and vehicles entering the Cemetery property do so at their own risk, and the Township is not liable for damage or injury to individuals or property.
Big Rock Welsh (South) Cemetery – Rhodes Road, Big Rock Fowler Grove Cemetery – Granart Road
A very limited number of open gravesites are available and are reserved for township residents and immediate family relatives of existing burials. 1 burial lot can accommodate 1 full size burial or 2 cremains. Cremation lots can accommodate 2 cremains. All burials require an approved concrete burial or cremains vault.

The Big Rock Welsh Cemetery was established around 1865 by the Welsh Congregational Church and operated privately until 2019, when it was transferred to Big Rock Township.
